Program Objectives
Riding Master I
Following successful completion of Riding Master I the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate basic knowledge and skills for an entry level position in horse & barn care.
- Describe knowledge constituting a basic understanding in the career areas chosen, riding theory, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Demonstrate skills that show basic understanding in the career areas chosen, riding mastery at the level he/she was able to attain, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Describe the 12 week program in relation to his/her achievement, accomplishments, and future goals; demonstrate a positive attitude toward learning and a realistic perspective of his/her knowledge and skill levels in relation to career levels in the horse industry.
Riding Master II
Following successful completion of Riding Master II the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate basic knowledge and skills for an entry level position in horse & barn care and a career area continued from Riding Master I.
- Describe knowledge constituting a basic understanding in the career areas chosen, riding theory, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Demonstrate skills that show basic understanding in the career areas chosen, riding mastery at the level he/she was able to attain, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Describe the 24 week program in relation to his/her achievement, accomplishments, and future goals; demonstrate a positive attitude toward learning and a realistic perspective of his/her knowledge and skill levels in relation to career levels in the horse industry.
Riding Master III
Following successful completion of Riding Master III the student will be able to:
- Meet industry criteria in knowledge and skills for an entry level position in the career area(s) chosen (training, teaching, farrier, or versatility which may include breeding and/or business) for the 36 week course.
- Describe knowledge constituting an intermediate understanding of horse & barn care, riding theory for his/her level of mastery, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Demonstrate skills that show an intermediate level understanding of horse & barn care, riding mastery at the level he/she was able to attain, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Describe the 36 week program in relation to his/her achievement, accomplishments, and future goals; demonstrate a positive attitude toward learning and a realistic perspective of his/her knowledge and skill levels in relation to career levels in the horse industry.
Comprehensive 36 Week Riding Master III
Following successful completion of Comprehensive 36 Week Riding Master III the student will be able to:
- Meet industry criteria in knowledge and skills for an entry level position in a new career area(s) chosen (training, teaching, farrier, or versatility which may include breeding and/or business) for the 36 week course.
- Describe knowledge constituting an intermediate understanding of horse & barn care, riding theory for his/her level of mastery, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Demonstrate skills that show an intermediate level understanding of horse & barn care, riding mastery at the level he/she was able to attain, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Describe the 36 week program in relation to his/her achievement, accomplishments, and future goals; demonstrate a positive attitude toward learning and a realistic perspective of his/her knowledge and skill levels in relation to career levels in the horse industry.
Riding Master IV
Following successful completion of Riding Master IV the student will be able to:
- Meet industry criteria in knowledge and skills for an entry level position in a new career area(s) or an intermediate/advanced level position in career area(s) chosen for in-depth study continued from Riding Master I - III.
- Describe knowledge constituting an intermediate/advanced understanding of horse & barn care, riding mastery at the level he/she is able to attain, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Demonstrate skills that show an intermediate/advanced understanding of horse & barn care, riding mastery at the level he/she was able to attain, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Describe the 48 week program in relation to his/her achievement, accomplishments, and future goals beyond basics; demonstrate a positive attitude toward learning and a realistic perspective of his/her knowledge and skill levels in relation to career levels in the horse industry.
Riding Master V
Following successful completion of Riding Master V the student will be able to:
- Meet industry criteria in knowledge and skills for an entry level position in a new career area(s) or an intermediate/advanced level position in career area(s) chosen for in-depth study in a specialized discipline continued from Riding Master I - IV.
- Describe knowledge constituting an intermediate/advanced understanding of horse & barn care, riding mastery at the level he/she is able to attain, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Demonstrate skills that show an intermediate/advanced understanding of horse & barn care, riding mastery at the level he/she was able to attain, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Describe the 60 week program in relation to his/her achievement, accomplishments, and future goals beyond basics; demonstrate a positive attitude toward learning and a realistic perspective of his/her knowledge and skill levels in relation to career levels in the horse industry.
Riding Master VI
Following successful completion of Riding Master VI the student will be able to:
- Meet industry criteria in knowledge and skills for an entry/intermediate level position in new career area(s) chosen or for an intermediate/advanced level position in career area(s) chosen for in-depth study in a specialized discipline in a continuation of career areas chosen in Riding Master I - V.
- Describe knowledge constituting an intermediate/advanced understanding of horse & barn care, riding theory for his/her level of mastery, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Demonstrate skills that show an intermediate/advanced understanding of horse & barn care, riding mastery at the level he/she was able to attain, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Describe the 72 week program in relation to his/her achievement, accomplishments, and future goals beyond basics; demonstrate a positive attitude toward learning and a realistic perspective of his/her knowledge and skill levels in relation to career levels in the horse industry.
Comprehensive 36 Week Riding Master VI
Following successful completion of Comprehensive 36 Week Riding Master VI the student will be able to:
- Meet industry criteria in knowledge and skills for an entry/intermediate level position in new career area(s) chosen or for an intermediate/advanced level position in career area(s) chosen for in-depth study in a specialized discipline in a continuation of career areas chosen in Riding Master I - V.
- Describe knowledge constituting an intermediate/advanced understanding of horse & barn care, riding theory for his/her level of mastery, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Demonstrate skills that show an intermediate/advanced understanding of horse & barn care, riding mastery at the level he/she was able to attain, and showing in the riding discipline chosen.
- Describe the 72 week program in relation to his/her achievement, accomplishments, and future goals beyond basics; demonstrate a positive attitude toward learning and a realistic perspective of his/her knowledge and skill levels in relation to career levels in the horse industry.
Equine Science Master
Following successful completion of Equine Science Master the student will be able to:
- Instructor/Teacher: ability to apply the principles, theory and practice to the development of the rider.
- Trainer: ability to apply the principles of theory and practice to the development of the performance horse in ground handling.
- Equine Business Manager: ability to manage all aspects of a horse business including, but not limited to barn management, marketing & sales, financial & record keeping.
- Breeder: ability to apply knowledge and skills to an equine breeding operation.
- Massage Therapist: ability to apply techniques of massage to increase performance level, competitiveness, and endurance in horses.
- Horse Health Provider/Barn Manager: ability to apply the principles and skills of good health to the maintenance of all horses, including but not limited to diagnosis & treatment of common illnesses & injuries, providing care & needed injections, & assisting with veterinary treatments.
- Farrier: ability to apply concepts to the assessment of the foot care needs of the horse & perform skills of trimming, shoeing, & maintenance of the foot; ability to recognize diseases of the hoof, determine appropriate types of shoes for different purposes, & apply forging techniques.
Shoeing Short Course
Following successful completion of the Shoeing Short Course the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate basic knowledge and skills for an entry level position in shoeing.
- Describe knowledge constituting a basic understanding in the areas of Farrier Science, Craftsmanship and Forgework.
- Describe the 12 week program in relation to his/her accomplishments and future goals; demonstrate a positive attitude toward learning and a realistic perspective of his/her knowledge and skill levels in relation to career levels in the industry.
